Blackbird
Caye PADI 5 Star Dive Resort is located offshore on the Turneffe Atoll,
25 miles off the coast of Belize City. The resort is nestled within
1,300 acres of island forest on a 2-mile long private, white sand beach.
The resort boasts 18 individual beachfront, air conditioned cabanas
offering a personal, private and relaxing atmosphere. Belize is home
to the second largest barrier reef system in the world and 3 of the 4
atolls in the entire Western Hemisphere. Blackbird Resort on the
Turneffe Atoll has some of the worlds best diving, renowned for its
biodiversity above and below the water. Turneffe is the only Caribbean
Atoll made up of dozens of mangrove islands, which are the juvenile
nurseries for coral reefs and many schools of fish. |

You
came to Blackbird Caye to dive. But after a day spent exploring some of the
world’s greatest seascapes, you need a place to rest your head. Each of
their guesthouses have been recently renovated, and sport straightforward
amenities to help you rest for your next adventure. And with only 20
accommodations onsite, no other Belize cabana resort takes you closer to the
reef — and further from stress.
No need to bring your snacks — in the
Blackbird Caye palapa, all you need is your appetite. Giving international
flavors a local makeover, the Blackbird Restaurant incorporates
freshly-caught seafood and Belizean produce into every breakfast, lunch, and
dinner. If you get hungry between meals, head for the water; two tropical
bars serve snacks and drinks alongside the largest reef in the Caribbean.

Some
divers are fascinated by the Great Blue Hole (Jacques Cousteau named this
aquatic sinkhole one of the best dives in the world). Others are drawn to
Turneffe Atoll’s shallow reefs. At Blackbird Caye dive resort, you aren’t
far from either — or from 70 other scenic spots. From their dock, 20 of
those are less than 35 minutes away by boat. Start outlining your
dive plan; you’ve got a lot to see. From the 37-foot Queen Angel to the
50-foot Big Bird, their fleet of four vessels will get you to your dive site
quickly and safely.
Turneffe Atoll is home to over 70 dive sites;
read on to discover some resort favorites. |
- The Witconcrete Wreck: Located
0.75 miles Northeast of Blackbird Caye. This once operational sugar ship
was deployed to her resting place in the
- Soldier Caye Reserve. Silver
Caves: Schools of silversides inhabit caves dug into a shallow wall,
20-80 feet below the surface.
- Long Caye Wall: Tunicates, sea
slugs, groupers, and jacks all add color to this medium-depth dive.
- Majestic Alley: Staghorn and
elkhorn corals — and plenty of tropical fish — can be found on this
shallow dive.
- Soldier Caye: Swim amongst pillar
corals and moray eels in 30 feet of water.
- Coral Gardens: Maxing out at 30
feet, this sandy ridge features picturesque, healthy coral formations.
- Oasis: Plunge down to 120 feet and
snap pictures of black corals and sea sponges.
