DSAT Nitrox Gas Blender

The DSAT Gas Blender course will train you as a qualified gas blender, allowing you to provide gas mixes to appropriately certified consumers. You'll learn the physical properties of oxygen, its associated hazards, handling requirements and what cleaning equipment is necessary. Finally, you will learn the five methods of obtaining the desired enriched air nitrox mix and the various methods used to obtain proper helium mixes. As a gas blender you must be familiar with the physical properties of oxygen, its various forms and purities, hazards and special handling requirements. The DSAT Gas Blender Manual and CD-ROM, in conjunction with your instructor, will familiarize you with the procedures and techniques needed for gas blending.

 The DSAT Nitrox Gas Blender course is intended to train divers in the proper procedures, equipment requirements, and hazards involved in blending Enriched Air Nitrox for recreational scuba.  DSAT is a PADI corporate affiliate which offers a variety of technical diving courses.  Areas covered in this class include:

  • Responsibility of the gas blender

  • Gases of diving

  • Oxygen handling

  • Gas production equipment

  • Enriched Air Nitrox mixing techniques

  • Oxygen analyzers

  • Cylinder handling & sign out

What do I need to do before class?:
Read the DSAT Nitrox Gas Blender Manual and complete review questions at the end of each chapter. You also need to complete a PADI Student Record File.
Schedule: Class session, One evening 5:30 - 10pm.  The student will then complete the practical application by blending at least five times (to an O2 content accuracy within one percent). Your instructor will provide more details on this during class.
