PADI Advanced Public Safety Diver

Public safety diving requires special training and a significantly different mindset than recreational diving. The PADI Advanced Public Safety Diver prepares you for more challenging public safety diving operations away from shore. Practice vehicle-related victim rescue and how to mark, recover and handle evidence. Prepare for missions away from shore. Gain experience through realistic scenarios and learn about the law enforcement aspects of public safety diving, such as how to mark and collect evidence.
 
The eLearning content explains the specialized procedures, equipment, scene handling techniques, communications, search and rescue techniques, and documentation procedures for the Advanced Public Safety Diver course. During six open water dives, you will practice different search patterns and evidence collection. Work as a team to complete simulated victim rescue missions.
 

PADI Advanced Public Safety Diver course moves out of the “specialty” diver course lists and stands as a distinct program, dedicated to this specialized diving field. The program now includes three courses – Public Safety Diver, Surface Support Specialist and the new Advanced Public Safety Diver. | Public Safety Diver training in Minnesota.

Statement of Understanding:
  • This course is not intended or designed to make the diver or the diver's team a public safety dive rescue unit capable of responding to every call for rescue service. Creating a dive rescue unit has considerable financial, training, equipment, and personnel requirements.

  • With this in mind, this course is designed to better equip students with the skills needed to respond to the unforeseen situations and better prepare them to meet the challenges a public safety diver might face.

  • This course covers basic public safety diver rescue skills. It does not cover every environment, condition, situation or rescue a public safety diver might encounter.

  • This course does not cover environments such as swift water, current, deep water, contaminated water, low head dams, hydraulics, overhead environments, ice, etc. These conditions and others like them require more advanced training, equipment and experience.

  • Advanced Public Safety Diver training does not supersede established standards, your agency, state, county, or country's policy, or recognized Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

  • This course does not address the NFPA 1670 Standards relating to the disciplines of Ice 9.3.7, Surf 9.2.8, or Swift Water 9.3.9.

Prerequisite:
  • Minimum age of 18
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certifcation from another training organization.
  • PADI Rescue Diver or have a qualifying certifcation from another training organization.
  • PADI Public Safety Diver or have a qualifying certifcation from another training organization..
  • For divers to use a dry suit in this program, they must either have a dry suit diver certification or have logged proof of at least four dry suit dives.

  • Standard Dive Equipment (Regulator, BCD, mask, fins, appropriate exposure suit*,...)

  • Two scuba cylinders

  • Two different cutting devices (shears, knife, seat belt cutter, etc.)

  • Visual and audible surface signaling devices

  • Rescue breathing mask

  • Personal flotation device (PFD)

What do I need to do before class?:
You will need to complete the online knowledge-based portion of the course, ( PADI Advanced Public Safety Diver eLearning ) and complete knowledge reviews at the end of each module. You also need to complete a PADI Student Record File (which includes a Medical Statement). If you answer yes to any of the medical history questions, the PADI Medical Statement must be signed by your physician prior to your first pool session. You can download and review the Diver Medical | Participant Questionnaire. If you require a physicians approval, we recommend you also retaining an extra copy of the signed Medical Statement for your records.
 
Scuba Diving certification classes offered at Scuba Center in Eagan, Minnesota Schedule:
The PADI Advanced Public Safety Diver course includes classroom and pool (Confined Water) sessions as well as six open water dives conducted over at least three days.
The minimum number of recommended hours is 30.
