Cozumel
(Mayan for Island of Swallows) is located in the Caribbean Sea off the
eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula (Approximately 51 miles
south of Cancún and 12 miles from the mainland.). It is one of the eight
municipalities of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. The Maya are
believed to have settled Cozumel by the early part of the first
millennium A.D., and older preclassic Olmec artifacts have been found on
the island as well. In 1961, famed undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau
discovered the extent and beauty of Palancar, the coral reefs at the
south of Cozumel and publicized it as one of the most beautiful scuba
diving areas of the world. By 1970, the population of Cozumel had
reached 10,000 and today some 90,000 people inhabit this island
paradise. |
|
Built
at the largest private beach on the island, Presidente InterContinental
Cozumel Resort & Spa is just minutes away from abundant and colorful coral
reefs that have made Cozumel one of the most important destinations to
practice SCUBA diving and snorkeling in the world.

Scuba
Du has been the in-house dive center at the Presidente InterContinental
Cozumel Resort & Spa since 1992. This speaks volumes about the sustained
level of quality services and safety provided by the Scuba Du team over the
years. Combined with their personalized service, fun and easy going
professional staff, it has all resulted in legions of happy and returning
clients who have repeatedly continued to choose Scuba Du.
The
dive center is located on the resort’s private beach, steps from the private
dock. Amongst vibrant reefs, caves, wrecks and caverns such as The Devil’s
Throat, expect to see moray eels, turtles, eagle rays, lobsters and endemic
toadfish. Scuba Du has been repeatedly recognised as a top 10 diving center
within the Caribbean by industry publications such as Scuba Diving Magazine
and Sport Diver. Five custom built dive boats are moored outside the dive
shop and each are managed by experienced boat captains and crew members. All
vessels have ladders, shaded spaces, DAN oxygen units and VHF radios.
Cozumel is a flat island based on limestone, with the highest natural point
being less than 49 ft above sea level. The island is covered with mangrove
forests, home for plenty of small mammals and endemic birds. For the
land-loving type, you can explore the San Gervasio Ruins and see Mayan ruins
from up close. Go on a hike through the Punta Sur Ecological Park and
discover the local wildlife that will surely have you in awe. If you're
interested in trying something completely different, there is a Chocolate
Tour at Kaokao Chocolate Factory in Cozumel that you might enjoy… if you’re
a chocolate lover, of course! |
