Tanzania is a land of rolling plains, dramatic
mountain ranges, great lakes and pristine white sandy beaches. Add to this
spectacular landscape the largest wildebeest migration on earth, some of
the world's most cunning predators, vibrant tribes and unspoiled coral
reefs and you have a holiday destination to satisfy even the most
discerning traveler! |
|
Tanzania's
close proximity to the equator provides an idyllic climate making it a
year-round holiday destination whether you are looking for a beach escape, a
once in a lifetime safari or a thrill-seeking climb to the summit of Mt
Kilimanjaro. We will be traveling to Tanzania during one of it's two dry
seasons. From the beginning of January to the end of February, the
temperature sits right around 80 degrees fahrenheit. This is the best time
of year for diving because temperatures are comfortable and conditions are
favorable. What's more? It's whale shark season! |
|
Resting
at the foot of Mount Meru, the sprawling city of Arusha is known as the
safari capital of northern Tanzania. It serves as an excellent base from
which to explore the remarkably scenic surrounding area which includes
majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as the Manyara, Tarangire and
Ngorongoro National Parks. We will start our trip here. After our journey
traveling from the States, we'll spend one night at Gran Melia Arusha to
rest, recover, and prepare for the safari days ahead!
|
|
|
After our overnight in Arusha, we will move on to Tarangire National
Park.
Situated within Tanzania's spectacular Manyara Region, Tarangire National
park is an awe-inspiring national park consisting of granite ridges, river
valleys, mixed vegetative landscapes, and free-roaming wildlife. During
the dry season, the Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife.
Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala,
gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and, not surprisingly, the predators
follow. With lions being among the most commonly spotted animal, it is a
rare day that a visitor does not spot this majestic animal prowling or
grazing. Tarangire is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country
antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are seen regularly. This expansive area
is also known for its spectacular baobab trees, its breathtaking views of
the Masaai Steppe and the wondrous mountains to the south.
During
our time in Tarangire, we'll stay at the Tarangire Sopa Lodge - situated
right in the park for easy access to our daily safaris.

|
Up
next, we'll pass through the town of Karatu in the green hills of
Tanzania's northern highlands. Presided over by the towering Ol Deani
Volcano, this small, colorful town serves as a popular overnight stop for
visitors exploring the area's many game parks. We'll stay at Ngorongoro
Oldeani Mountain Lodge - a beautiful lodge with spectacular views of
Oldeani Mountain and the Ngorongoro Crater rim. The property -which sits
on 40 acres of lush green gardens and vegetation- is home to over 130
species of bird and is a wonderful location for star gazing and relaxing
when we're not busy on safari game drives.` |
|
Next,
we'll move on to the Central Serengeti
and stay at Ole Serai Luxury Camp - conveniently located near Moru Kopjes
and Lake Magadi. This area is home to the Big 5 and a Hippo pool! The
camp's ideal location makes it possible to witness wildlife on site in
addition to the game drives. |
|
Next up: we'll conclude our time in the
Serengeti and then move on to paradise! The next leg of our trip will be
spent on Mafia Island - located off the coast of Tanzania. We'll spend 4
nights at Mafia Island Lodge - located right in Chole Bay, in the heart of
the marine park. Here, we'll enjoy 3 days of 2 tank diving. The marine
park is home to several species of nudibranch, seahorses, leaf fish,
groupers, Napoleon wrasse, frogfish, and guitarfish. Dolphins are often
spotted en route to the dive sites. And most excitingly, we'll be here
during whale shark season! |
